Teacher recruitment scam: ED summons Abhishek Banerjee on June 16
A team of the central agency on Wednesday visited Abhishek Banerjee’s residence in Kalighat and served a notice at his office.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday brutally mocked Trinamool Congress General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee over his close aide Jahangir Khan’s decision to withdraw from the Falta repoll just two days before the voting.
Referring to the famous movie dialogue – ‘Pushpa jhukega nahi’ – which was used by Khan during the Assembly polls, Union Minister of State and former West Bengal BJP chief Sukanta Majumdar said that ‘Pushpa’ turned out to be a ‘phusss’ (flop) and bowed, and now his boss Abhishek Banerjee will bow too.

“Several people try to be ‘Pushpa’ but ‘Pushpa’ was a ‘phusss’ (flop) this time. So, all these ‘Pushpas’ and their boss – there used to be photos in Diamond Harbour stating ‘AB jhukega nahi’. Everyone is bending now. AB’s agent bhi jhuk gaya (has bowed); AB bhi jhukega (will bow too),” Majumdar said.

His remarks came hours after Jahangir Khan announced that he is withdrawing from the May 21 Falta repoll, citing a special package announced by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari for the constituency.
“I am the son of Falta and I want Falta to be at peace and grow. Our CM Suvendu Adhikari is giving a special package for the development of Falta, which is why I am separating myself from the re-polling of the constituency,” Khan said while addressing a press conference.
Falta went to the polls in the second phase of the West Bengal Assembly elections. On the voting day, the BJP had alleged that its symbol on EVM machines in several booths was covered with tape and demanded a repoll.
The ECI was swift to act on the ruling party’s complaint and announced repolling in the constituency on May 2.
After this, Abhishek Banerjee dared the BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, to contest the Falta bypoll.
What did TMC say on Jahangir Khan pulling out of Falta contest?
The TMC strongly condemned its candidate Jahangir Khan’s decision to withdraw from the Falta repoll, saying the leader succumbed under pressure.
In a statement shared on X shortly after Khan announced his decision to pull out, the TMC said, “The decision taken by Jahangir Khan to withdraw from the Falta re-poll is his personal decision and not that of the party.”
The Mamata Banerjee-led party also accused the BJP of intimidating its workers and the Election Commission of India of turning a blind eye despite repeated complaints.
